What is the best kind of wood to burn?

I love having my little campfires in the fall. What is the best burning wood? I have alot of pine and oak in my area. Pine seems to burn rather quickly. I don't especially care about the scent of the wood, I don't cook over it but I do prefer it split rather than logs.
